It’s always the second weekend in November—mark your calendars for next year! November 9th and 10th, 2019. It’s a great event–unique art, fine handcrafts, delicious food, and great music. Plus all proceeds go back to the community–scholarships, youth groups, veterans, and more.

Terry and I live about a mile from the festival grounds. When Terry retired full-time, we volunteered for the event in 2015. In 2016, Terry became the chairperson of the festival and president of the Homosassa Civic Club. I was his assistant (and the first lady). That year we were way over our heads as we took on advertising, the raffles, t-shirts, entertainment, photography, managing the volunteers, graphic design, the websites, social media…. just about the only thing we didn’t run was the arts, crafts, and food vendors. Fortunately there was a small but experienced and dedicated band of volunteers to teach us. And we learned!

2018 was Terry’s third year as chairperson. And we had over 70 volunteers–pretty good for a small community that only has 110 members in the civic club! Many of them took on very difficult jobs. Members took over the advertising and the raffles. A friend with catering experience joined the food vendor committee. This year a professional musician stepped up to run the entertainment and starting next year we have graphic artists that are taking over the t-shirts. They are all volunteers. No one receives any compensation to work at the festival.

For 45th Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival, I’ll still do the photography, the websites, and the social media. That’s what I’m good at. Terry will be organizing and managing. That’s his expertise.

Every year after the festival concludes, the team meets and goes over their notes. The vendors turn in suggestion forms. During numerous meetings throughout the year, there will be discussions about what worked, what didn’t, what should be changed, and how can we make it better?

The VOLUNTEERS and their commitment are why the festival gets better every year.

On Tuesday, November 27th, the Homosassa Civic Club held a much deserved Volunteer Appreciation Dinner.

There were raffles.  Almost everyone won something.  Several of the artists, crafters, and sponsors contributed.  (I got a keychain)

And why do these volunteers work so hard?

Besides having a lot of fun working together, they know that the festival funds the Homosassa Civic Club and the club gives back to the community.support

The Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival had another great year and the Homosassa Civic Club intends to reach out to the community with even more programs.

A big SHOUT OUT to our volunteers!
