The spirit of the Olympic Movement rolled into Pasco County in June. The Pasco County Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Department celebrated Olympic Day with two days of fun, Olympic-inspired activities for participants of the Summer Day Camp Program. Activities included team sport drill competitions, tugs-of-war, relay races, and obstacle courses. Olympic Day is celebrated every year on June 23rd through a series of special events worldwide.

“It was really exciting to take part in Olympic Day and inspire kids in the community,” said Parks and Recreation Manager Brian Taylor. “We are proud to support the Olympic Movement and to encourage children to lead healthy, active lives.”

Olympic Day, was created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, and focuses on the Olympic values and ideals of fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration by holding Olympic Day events ranging from small gatherings to large, city-wide spectacles.
