Captain William Toney

An Update from Old Homosassa

By Kathy Green Posted on May 23, 2017

I’ve been writing here on NatureCoaster.com for two months now! Started on March 28 and it’ already late May with sum-sum-summer time right around the corner!

Thought I’d take today to give a few updates from my previous posts….

First, the Fishing Homosassa 101 seminar was a great success! Eager guests started arriving at 5:30 pm for the 7 pm talk!  After a long day of fishing, Captain William Toney stood and spoke for two hours in front of a standing room only crowd.  Along with explaining how to fish in the area, he took questions from the audience.

Due to the tremendous participation, The Old Homosassa Learning Center will be having more seminars in the future in their Adult Learning Series.  I’ll be posting future events here and on the website, www.HomosassaCivicClubInc.org

I also posted in April about the Sew Cool!Workshop held every Thursday from 12:30 – 3:00.  The workshop is open to every level of sewist!  Sewing machines, patterns, and fabric are available along with Faith Peix, the sewing coach!  The workshop will continue through the summer!

On April 11th I wrote about Old Homosassa Goes to Tallahassee.  I’m very excited to report that the trip paid off!  In the State Budget, The “Access to the Park” Committee received $850,000 for the Old Homosassa Heritage waterfront park acquisition and the Homosassa River restoration project received $350,000.  Of course, Governor Scott could still still veto the funding but we have our hopes up!

More to come from the west side of Citrus County!
