At its January 28, 2020, regular meeting, the Board of County Commission unanimously voted to approve a public/private partnership between Hernando County Government and the Hernando County Growers Association, Inc. for the use and operation of the Little Rock Cannery located at 15487 Citrus Way in Brooksville.

BOCC approves partnership with Growers Association for the operation of Little Rock Cannery

The Hernando County Growers Association (HCGA) is a registered 501(c)3 community development organization whose mission is to connect people with fresh local produce and agricultural products.

As part of this partnership, the HCGA will use and operate the Cannery facility to expand its programs, provide educational classes and take over current canning operations that have been closed to the public for more than a year. As part of this partnership, the County will be entering into a long-term lease agreement with HCGA that will allow the organization to seek grant opportunities and private funding to expand the services of the Cannery and eventually be self-supporting.

“We are very excited about this partnership with the Hernando County Growers Association,” said Hernando County Deputy Administrator Tobey Phillips. “This organization will help bring a unique and important resource back to life in our community in a reimagined way.”

Contact the HCGA at Info@HernandoGrowers.org for more information on the Little Rock Cannery.
