For the first year, Citrus County government, UF Extension, Keep Citrus County Beautiful and Lecanto High School Culture of Clean marketing team are offering the Trash to Treasure recycled art competition for middle and high school students and an opportunity for the public to vote on their favorite artwork.

Cast Your Vote for People’s Choice in the First Recycled Art Contest “Trash to Treasures”

Twelve students will be displaying their art at the Citrus County Courthouse, 110 N. Apopka Avenue, Inverness, Florida, from Tuesday, April 9 through Thursday, April 25, 2019, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Be sure to stop by to see the environmentally themed creations.  Artwork will be judged by a team of local artists, and you can vote for your favorite, the “People’s Choice Award”, at the courthouse any time while the art is on display.

The public will also be able to cast their vote between 9:00 am to 10:00 am, at the Extension’s FREE Earth Day event on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Extension Campus at 3650 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto, Florida. Certificates and cash prizes will be awarded at 11:00 am and the Earth Day event runs from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm with hands-on activities for all ages.

The Trash to Treasure contest was created, through a collaborative effort, by the University of Florida Extension Services, Citrus County government, the Culture of Clean Initiative, and Keep Citrus County Beautiful, to raise awareness about the environment and encourage the practice of recycling and upcycling.
