Children’s Christmas Outreach and the Angel Tree for the Children in Homosassa
The Homosassa Civic Club and the Old Mill Tavern joined forces again this year for the Children’s Christmas Outreach and the Angel Tree at the Old Mill Tavern. Both groups work with the Homosassa Elementary School to identify children and their siblings that might go without Christmas gifts under the tree. These families are represented by Angels on the Angel Tree.
As of last Friday, we have 36 families with 94 children. You can help this outreach by adopting an angel from the Angel Tree at the Old Mill Tavern and purchasing the gifts for each child from their wish list. If you can not adopt an entire family or if all the angels have already been taken, you can ask any of the wait staff about donating money to the cause.
The unwrapped presents are returned to the Old Mill Tavern and the list is checked for items that were not gifted. Volunteers then take the donated money and head to local stores to purchase whatever remains. They also put together Christmas stockings for each child. A huge wrapping party will be held next week at the Homosassa Civic Club and then the parents or guardians will pick up the bundle of gifts and put them under the tree for Christmas morning.
The Homosassa Civic Club also holds a Christmas party that is open to all the children in the community. Crafts, snacks, gifts, and Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus!
All of the tips from the beer and wine booths at the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival are donated to the Children’s Christmas Outreach and Angel Tree along with other funds from the Homosassa Civic Club. Cayla’s Coats purchases all the jackets and coats on the wish lists. The Old Mill Tavern makes donations towards the gifts plus this year three other local organizations stepped up.
Clay Scott from the American Legion Post 166 inquired about the Children’s Christmas Outreach during the Homosassa Arts, Crafts, and Seafood Festival and they donated $100. One of the members of the post, Carol Phillips, is also on the board of the Homosassa Lion’s Club and let them know about the gift-giving event and they gave $400 to the program. In addition, the Homosassa Rotary donated $500.
I want to give a HUGE thank you to all of the groups and the members of the community that have adopted angels, volunteered their time, or donated money. This effort would not be possible without you. With your help, we are making our community a better place!
