January 7th 9:00 AM Birding 101 – Join Conservation Center staff to explore birding. This is the full course in equipment and learning to identify birds in the field. This session is for ages 16+. Information on birding sites and statewide birding trail will be available. Learn about the Wings over Florida certificate program (great for all ages) for birders.
January 10th 10:00 AM Nature Portraits – This beginners workshop on photographing people outdoors is great for the scrapbook enthusiast parent or anyone looking to improve their family photo quality. Alice Herden of Hernando Sun will walk you through selecting scenery, poses and the use of reflectors. Register in advance by calling (352) 754-6722. There is a 10$ fee for this class.
January 11th 5:30 PM Wild Wednesday – If you are looking for a unique dining experience look no further. Outdoors expert and campfire cook extraordinaire Jeanene of Not-a-Clue Adventures will put you through primitive chef school in this family friendly program. Participants will prepare a full meal outdoors with entrée, sides, dessert and drink included. Pre-registration and a fee is required. January 13th 10:00 AM UF/IFAS Rude Guests in the Garden – Florida has such a mild inviting climate that everyone loves it here, especially exotic plants. Join Lilly Browning of Hernando County’s Florida Friendly Landscape program to learn about invasive exotic plants that may threaten your yard and what to do about them. No need to register for this free program.
January 24th 10:00 AM Bird Photography – Birding opportunities abound at Chinsegut but wild birds can often be difficult subjects to photograph due to their flighty nature. Join Alice Herden of Green-fly Media and Hernando Sun to learn about photographing birds in staged environments and in the wild. Register in advance by calling (352)754-6722. January 27th 8:00 AM Beginners Birding – A volunteer from Hernando Audubon Society will be at the Conservation Center at 8 AM to begin an observation session in the Bird and Butterfly garden before hitting the trails. This program is free, no registration required. Loaner binoculars and field guides available for new birders. Program runs until 11 AM.
January 28th 10:00 AM Beginners Archery – Join us for this 2 hour beginner’s instructional course and target shoot. All equipment for this free program is provided by the center. This session is for adults only, advance registration is required by calling (352) 754-6722.
