Chinsegut Conservation Center July Programs

Chinsegut Conservation Center is open to the public from 8 AM until 2 PM Fridays and Saturdays and other times for scheduled programs or by appointment. Here is the schedule of programs offered at Chinsegut Conservation Center for July, 2018.

The Center hosts many wildlife education programs and hikes throughout the year. Fun educational programs connect visitors with biologists and wildlife experts to explore and become familiar with Florida’s unique and sensitive natural areas.

Located 6 miles north of Brooksville, Chinsegut Conservation Center Tract covers 408 of the 850 acres comprising Chinsegut Wildlife and Environmental Area (WEA).

Introduction to Nature Photography – July 8th 10:00 AM

Professional photographer Alice Herden, owner of Green-Fly Media is offering helpful instruction for those interested in nature photography. This class is a gateway to expanding your knowledge of DSLR equipment and settings, Florida’s plants and animals and some of the area’s most picturesque environments. Wild ABOUT Florida – July 11th – August 1 1:00 PM

This new adult series is designed to introduce residents who have recently relocated to Florida and Floridians who want to know more about state wildlife to the ins and outs and ups and downs of living with the diversity of wildlife found in Florida. Learn to identify wildlife, how agencies manage for wildlife, where to view wildlife and how to deal with nuisance wildlife at home. This first class is a general orientation to Florida. This is a four-class series and includes lots of reference materials and information on where to go to continue learning about Florida’s environments. Classes run each Wednesday through August 1st.Registration is required, $25.00 per person enrollment (fee covers all classes). Register by calling (352) 754-6722. Family “Campfire” Cookout – July 11th 6:30 PM

This fun family cookout is a great way to get the kids outdoors and share some new experiences this summer. Join your kids in cooking dinner over an open fire under the watchful   guidance of the Chinsegut staff and Jeanene from Not-A-Clue Adventures. Menu includes walking tacos, Dutch oven pizzas, grilled sandwiches and of course dessert. Pre-registration by July 9th required. Butterfly Count – July 20th 12:00 PM

Butterflies are sensitive to environmental conditions and can serve as a beacon of environmental or climatic changes. Learn to identify common Florida butterflies and how organized butterfly counts work. Our count information will be used to populate data in pollinators of Florida for Florida Nature Trackers. This is a free program open to ages 12+ no registration required. 2 Hour Program  

Children in the WILD; Animal Tracks – July 21st 2:00 PM

Children ages 5-9 are invited to become wildlife sleuths and solve the mystery of animal tracks. This free program includes games or hands-on activities. Please register to attend at MyFWC.com or by calling (352) 754-6722. 1 Hour Program       

Walking Sticks Hike; Perry Oldenburg WEA – July 21st 2:00 PM

Each month the “Walking Sticks” meet to explore some interesting Natural Areas and learn about their history, management and things to see. This month’s hike is at Perry Oldenburg WEA off Deer Run Rd. across US 41 from Chinsegut. This is a free guided hike for adults only. Please RSVP by calling (352) 754-6722. 1.5 Hour Program  

Pioneering Skills for Modern Homesteading – July 28th 9:00-3:00

Our second annual Pioneering Skills Day will have opportunities for ages 5+ to participate in archery, a composting workshop, Chicken keeping guidance, weaving, fire building instruction, vegetable gardening, old-fashioned navigation, homeowner chainsaw safety and more!
