Citrus Alzheimer’s Walk seeks sponsors, walkers

By Meaghan Goepferich Posted on September 1, 2019

The non-profit Alzheimer’s Family Organization has announced Citrus County Walk Aware for Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, October 19th, in scenic Floral City.  Now in its third year, the Walk has already raised $50,000 to provide services and support to the families of caregivers living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia in eight west-central Florida counties, including Citrus County.

Citrus Alzheimer’s Walk seeks sponsors, walkers

AFO Executive Director Kathleen Winters explains there are four ways to support the Walk: as a sponsor, as a walker, as the organizer of a walking team, or as the provider of a gift basket or other type of art or gift to be awarded through drawings on the day of the event.

The entry fee for individual walkers is $25.  They may enter the morning of the event, or in advance on-line at the AFO web site.  Walking teams of ten or more — when registered at one time — will earn a $5 discount per team member and vie for the Mary Blair Darling Award, a rotating plaque that will be taken home by the largest team.

Tickets for a chance to win gift baskets, art, or other appropriate gifts will be raffled off on the morning of the event, which will take place at the Town Center in Floral City from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.  The principal organizer and lead sponsor for the event is the Inverness-based Coping with Dementia LLC.  For more information about how to participate, call Debbie Selsavage at 352-422-3663.  To register on-line as a walker, or to learn more about sponsorship opportunities, go to www.alzheimersfamily.org/walkaware/.
