Citrus County Support Services announces the full reopening of their community centers and Senior Dining Program, beginning Tuesday, June 1, 2021.

Citrus County Community Centers Fully Reopen June 1, 2021

Locations that are set to fully reopen include Central Citrus Community Center (2804 W Marc Knighton Ct, Lecanto, FL 34461), East Citrus Community Center (9907 E Gulf to Lake Hwy, Inverness, FL 34452), West Citrus Community Center (8940 W Veterans Dr, Homosassa, FL 34448), and Hernando Area Senior Program (2415 N Florida Ave, Hernando, FL 34442). These centers have been open for limited activities since a soft reopening in October 2020; however, no lunch was served at the centers and the activities have been limited to those that can be socially distanced. Attendees have been required to have their temperatures taken before entering the building, wear a mask, sign a waiver, and social distance. As of Tuesday, June 1, 2021, this will all change.

The CDC has determined that fully vaccinated people are at a low risk of catching COVID-19; therefore, they have suggested that these individuals are no longer required to wear a mask. According to the latest CDC guidelines, an individual who has received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine or both shots of the two-dose Moderna or Pfizer vaccines, and have waited for two weeks after receiving their final dose, are considered to have a very low risk of obtaining COVID-19.

Due to the changes in CDC guidance, the community centers will no longer require participants to wear a mask, sign a waiver, have their temperature taken, or limit activities to those that can be socially distanced. Participants can now attend a community center and sit with their friends, play cards, put puzzles together, and participate in other games and activities that require closer contact. Lunch will be served Monday through Friday at 11:30am. The lunch meals will be in a pre-plated container that is sealed and will be opened by the person who receives the meal.

Community center staff will continue to sanitize and hand sanitizer is available. Participants are encouraged to use the hand sanitizer frequently. While masks will no longer be required, individuals who want to continue wearing their mask will be able to do so. Staff will do all they can to ensure that all participants are welcomed and feel safe to attend the community centers.
