Citrus County Fire Rescue Purchases Lifesaving Equipment with Grant Funds
In November 2020, Citrus County Fire Rescue (CCFR) was awarded an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) County Grant in the amount of $12,399.00 from the Florida Department of Health’s EMS Trust Fund. The purpose of this grant is to improve and expand pre-hospital EMS.

The grant money was recently used to purchase several Airtraq™️ cameras and laryngoscopes in various sizes, to facilitate intubation processes and improve visibility during critical intubation procedures. The Airtraq™️ Laryngoscope is the only disposable video laryngoscope system that can be used either with a non-electronic eye cup or secondary video monitor. This is important in the emergency field setting as electronics can sometimes fail, leaving CCFR personnel with a secondary option of using the non-electronic eye cup. In addition, this is the only disposable system that also uses a “guided channel” to pass the endotracheal tube through the vocal cords and into the glottic opening, which means no additional stylet is needed.
All CCFR personnel have received training on the new equipment with the provider of this medical technology. It has been placed in service to assist with providing the best pre-hospital care possible to our residents and visitors.
