Citrus County to enhance Fort Island Gulf Beach

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on April 8, 2020

The park closures due to the COVID-19 public health emergency, has provided Citrus County Parks and Recreation an opportunity to move up a project that had been planned for later this spring at Fort Island Gulf Beach in Crystal River.

The $300,000 beach sand nourishment project commenced on April 6, 2020. It is funded through the County’s Capital Improvement Funds.

Citrus County to enhance Fort Island Gulf Beach

Earth Tech Enterprises, Inc. was awarded the bid to furnish and deliver approximately 6,200 tons of sand to Ft Island Gulf Beach. The approved sand is being hauled from Davenport Sand Mine of Davenport, Florida.

Citrus County is taking this time to review all plans for maintenance and improvements to its parks and beaches, and where possible moving those projects forward to complete during this downtime.

It would be if the fishing pier could be made longer. Not enough room for many people

Traveled the world. Lived abroad years at a time.
Enjoyed marvelous beaches in many countries. Crystal river beach is the worst I have experienced.
