By Meaghan Goepferich Posted on May 18, 2022

Every year Citrus Sertoma 2.0 presents two prestigious awards to community members who have gone
above and beyond to support the club and Citrus County. This year the awards were presented at the
annual banquet on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at Citrus Hills Golf & Country Club.

Citrus Sertoma 2.0 Presents Annual Awards

The Service to Mankind 2022 Award was presented to Lisa White, owner of Mama’s Kuntry Kafe
(Inverness), better known as, “everyone’s favorite mama”. The recipient of this award cannot be a
Sertoma member but must exemplify Sertoma values by devoting time and effort towards the people of
their community. The award is the highest honor Sertoma can bestow on a nonmember and is based
upon the quality of impact of service the volunteer provides the community, state, or all of mankind.
The Sertoman of the Year 2022 Award was presented to Doreen Vaughan, treasurer of Citrus Sertoma
2.0. Doreen took on the oversight of the financials during the 2021 merger of Citrus Sertoma and
Inverness Sertoma clubs. She seamlessly integrated the two budgets while keeping club members
involved in the financial planning for the new club. The Sertoman of the Year Award is the top
recognition award that a club can give to one of its members. The award should be based on the
member’s lifetime contributions to Sertoma and the community.

Citrus Sertoma Club 2.0 works hard throughout the year to give monetarily and with their time to Camp
Endeavor, a 501c3 summer camp for deaf and hard of hearing children; Kids Deaf Baseball Camp at the
Villages; Sertoma Youth Ranch which provides youth groups from all over Florida the opportunity to
enjoy the outdoors at no charge, including physically and mentally challenged children, and the Sertoma
Foundation mobile audiology van out of New Port Richey which provides pediatric hearing screenings
and evaluations at local daycares and preschools, along with fitting and dispensing hearing aids. The
foundation’s focus is rural and under-served communities. The Foundation has screened over 23,000
children and 200 plus adults in the greater Tampa region, which includes Citrus County.
And of course, the Club gives back right here in Citrus County in many ways including donations to the
Boy Scouts and our Citrus County School District by adopting classrooms each year and providing
funding for the Family Resource Center, C.H.I.P.S., and F.F.R.A.
The public is always welcome at Citrus Sertoma meetings which are the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesday of each
month at 6:30pm at our new location, the Moose Lodge, 221 S Haid Terrace (off Gulf to Lake Hwy),
Lecanto 34461.
