Citrus Sertoma Club Honors Local Eagle Scouts

In a special ceremony during Citrus Sertoma Club’s regular meeting on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, three Eagle Scouts from Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Troop 302 (Inverness) were honored for their dedication to scouting and their community. Club Co-Chairs Maureen Tambasco and Mark Avery presented Kyle Coleman, Joseph Cabrera and Chris Rosato (not present) each with a certificate of recognition for achieving the level of eagle scout and a $100 check to go toward their individual community projects. The club has a long history of supporting the local BSA.

Each year Troop 302 helps Citrus Sertoma with their tent at the Floral City Strawberry Festival. “Our club’s annual fundraising efforts wouldn’t be possible without the heavy lifting of the scouts from troop 302,” said Rainer Jakob, long-time Sertoman and past scoutmaster. “Citrus Sertoma is proud to support young people that are involved in worthwhile endeavors that help them grow into lifelong active and involved community members.”

Citrus Sertoma Club gives monetarily and with their time to Camp Endeavor, a 501c3 summer camp for deaf and hard of hearing children; Kids Deaf Baseball Camp at the Villages; Sertoma Youth Ranch, which provides youth groups from all over Florida the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors at no charge, including physically and mentally challenged children; and the Sertoma Foundation mobile audiology van out of New Port Richey, which provides pediatric hearing screenings and evaluations along with fitting and dispensing hearing aids.

The foundation’s focus is rural and under-served communities.

In 2018 the Foundation has screened over 23,000 children and 200 plus adults in the greater Tampa region, which includes Citrus County. And of course, the Club gives back in Citrus County in many ways including donations to the Boy Scouts and our Citrus County School District by adopting classrooms each year and providing funding for the Family Resource Center, C.H.I.P.S., and F.F.R.A.

The public is always welcome at Citrus Sertoma meetings which are on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Join us at our new location, the Moose Lodge, 221 S Haid Terrace (off Gulf to Lake Hwy), Lecanto 34461.
