Citrus Sertoma is proud to announce it is a recipient of a 2021 Sertoma Club Grant, marking the club’s
continued commitment to volunteer service, charitable support and community leadership in the Citrus
County area. Funds from the grant will go to benefit Camp Endeavor in support of American Sign
Language proficient counselor salaries.

Citrus Sertoma Supports Camp Endeavor with Grant Donation

Camp Endeavor is a two-week residential camp that hosts up to ninety deaf and hard of hearing children
and their siblings ages 7 through 17. The 32-acre, two lake camp is located in Dundee, Florida and is the
only camp of its kind in the state. Campers connect with nature and their fellow campers through sports;
both on land and water, crafts, music, special events and fieldtrips. Campers have the opportunity to
learn more about deaf culture along with social and personal growth, independence and citizenship
while just being kids.

“Citrus Sertoma has been a supporter of Camp Endeavor since its inception in 1981 donating a minimum
of $1,000 each year for forty years,” said Citrus Sertoma Co-President Maureen Tambasco. “In 2020 the
club stepped up to meet the camp’s need and donated $7,500.”

Citrus Sertoma is part of the national Sertoma, Inc. a family of local civic service clubs. A thriving
nonprofit service organization that has been in existence for over a century. Sertoma is dedicated to
improving the quality of life for those at risk or impacted by hearing loss through education and support.

“Sertomans throughout the United States and Canada are dedicated to creating communities that serve
the needs of many,” said Amy Ellington, Sertoma Interim Executive Director. “We created this grant
program to help members like Citrus Sertoma support community charitable programs and
organizations.”

Citrus Sertoma Club continues to work hard throughout the year to give monetarily and with their time
to Camp Endeavor, a 501c3 summer camp for deaf and hard of hearing children; Kids Deaf Baseball
Camp at the Villages; Sertoma Youth Ranch which provides youth groups from all over Florida the
opportunity to enjoy the outdoors at no charge, including physically and mentally challenged children,
and the Sertoma Foundation mobile audiology van out of New Port Richey which provides pediatric
hearing screenings and evaluations along with fitting and dispensing hearing aids. The foundation’s
focus is rural and under-served communities. In 2018 the Foundation has screened over 23,000 children
and 200 plus adults in the greater Tampa region, which includes Citrus County.

And of course, the expanded Club will continue to give back right here in Citrus County in many ways
including donations to the Boy Scouts and our Citrus County School District by adopting classrooms each
year and providing funding for the Family Resource Center, C.H.I.P.S., and F.F.R.A.

The public is always welcome at Citrus Sertoma meetings which are the 1 st and 3 rd Wednesday of each
month at 6:30pm at our new location, the Moose Lodge, 221 S Haid Terrace (off Gulf to Lake Hwy),
Lecanto 34461.
