Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Volunteers Needed

Hernando County Emergency Management is looking for volunteers over the age of 18 who are interested in joining the Hernando County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

CERT volunteers receive special training to enhance their ability to prepare for, respond to and recover from a disaster situation. As an organized team, they provide vital services in the absence of emergency responders whose arrival may be delayed due to the severity of the event.

Training classes will be held on the following Saturdays: September 16, 23 and 30, 2017, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in the Emergency Operations Center located at 18900 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville. Previous emergency response experience is not required. Training materials are provided free of charge. CERT members will be required to pass a level 2 background check (including fingerprints) before being issued equipment and an ID.

Applications are available at www.hernandocounty.us/em/documents/forms/47-hernando-county-volunteer-application-1/file or call (352) 754-4083 for more information.

Applications must be emailed to Emergency Management Specialist Dan Santana at [email protected] or mailed to the Emergency Operations Center, 18900 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, Florida 34601. The deadline is 5 p.m., Thursday, September 14, 2017.
