The Diner, recently opened at 5490 S. Florida Avenue between Inverness and Floral City, has provided training for its staff to certify the restaurant Dementia Friendly.

The two-hour training in dementia awareness and communication, conducted by Coping with Dementia LLC’s Debbie Selsavage, also included refresher training for the staff of The Hen House Café in Inverness.

Both restaurants are owned by Kim Speckner, a strong advocate for providing a high standard of service to individuals living with dementia and their caregivers.

About The Diner, Speckner says, “As a restaurant built around a 1950s popular culture theme, our clientele is expected to include Baby Boomers and Pre-Boomers, which, unfortunately, have become the generation now susceptible to Alzheimer’s and dementia.  These may require a special level of understanding and service, which we intend to provide.”
