Dirt to Move for Yulee Sidewalk after the Holidays

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on December 26, 2018

The Yulee Drive Sidewalk Project in Homosassa continues to move forward and residents in the area will soon see dirt moving.

The nearly $828,000 construction contract for the Yulee Drive sidewalk project was approved by the Board of County Commissioners on November 27, 2018.  The Department of Transportation (DOT) Local Agency Program (LAP) will pay $625,000 of the $828,000 through a federal grant.

The new 2.8 mile, 5 to 6 foot wide concrete sidewalk will be constructed within the existing right of way along Yulee Drive from W. Central Street to US19 (Suncoast Highway). The sidewalk will be a welcomed addition to the community providing a safe means of connecting area residences to places of employment, shopping and to the wide-walk/path currently being constructed as part of the US19 widening  project.

County staff met with the contractor, Florida Safety Contractors, Inc. on December 20, 2018 for a pre-construction meeting.  Construction is anticipated to begin after the holidays and the project will take approximately seven months to complete.  If you have any questions, or for additional information, please contact Mr. Walt Eastmond, Transportation Project Manager at 352-527-5446.
