With hurricane season set to begin June 1, Duke Energy has teamed up with Mid Florida Community Services, Inc. (MFCS), to provide emergency weather radios to some of the residents most in need who are served by the agency.

“I am excited about the collaboration between MFCS and Duke Energy, and the opportunity to provide emergency weather radios in this part of Hernando County,” said Michael Georgini, CEO of MFCS. “Our main focus is to help those in need.  This situation gives Mid Florida Community Services an opportunity to team up with another organization, and serve our clients and their families in a different way.”

The emergency radios, along with pertinent storm safety and preparation information in both English and Spanish, will be issued during a Feeding Tampa Bay drive-thru food distribution on Wednesday, May 26, beginning at 3 p.m. at Kennedy Park in Brooksville. Duke Energy and MFCS have planned additional distribution events in Citrus and Sumter Counties. The emergency radios are funded by the Duke Energy Foundation.

“Early preparation is key to keeping you and your family safe during and after a hurricane,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “Emergency weather radios like those provided to Mid Florida Community Services are important items to include in your storm kit so you can react quickly when dangerous weather threatens your neighborhood.”

Other items to consider for an emergency kit for your family include medicines, water, non-perishable food and supplies that might be hard to find after a storm.
