The 2nd Annual Freedom Fest Veterans Day Celebration returns to Sims Park the weekend of November 9, 10 and 11th. The event begins on Friday evening with the Freedom Fighters Feast, a dinner under the stars in Sims Park for Veterans and their guests. The special dinner is provided by the award-winning Dulcet Restaurant & Grill. Lending to the beautiful ambience, music will be performed by talented violinist Cal Morris. Veterans are encouraged to reach out to the Event Chair, Amy Anderson, for their inclusion as a guest for the dinner.
Saturday, November 10 continues at the park with a full day of crafters, vendors, kid-friendly inflatables, festival food, craft beer, and live music. The schedule of live music includes local talent including Blues Legend, Nitro. Also appearing is national recording artist Keni Thomas, and renowed AC/DC tribute band, Stiff Upper Lip.

Saturday afternoon will also include a Military Vehicles on display throughout Saturday; at 3pm the first annual FRIENDLY KIA TROLLEY PULL sponsored by Smith Collision Solutions, a friendly competition among teams competing for the First Place trophy, cash award and bragging rights. The five-man or six-woman teams will compete for the fastest time literally pulling the Friendly KIA Trolley across the finish line.
On Sunday, November 11 the event continues at the park from 12 noon with the return of the 2nd Annual Veterans Day parade starting at 3pm at Gulf Drive and Grand Boulevard. The parade route follows that of the other two city parades, traveling north on Grand Boulevard then around to Orange Lake to Sims Park.
Immediately following the parade in Sims Park will be a live concert with Keni Thomas and his band CornBread. Ken is an American country music singer and United States Army Ranger. Thomas was a member of Task Force Ranger as a part of Operation Restore Hope in Somalia, and served in the Battle of Mogadishu. Thomas is a motivational speaker drawing from this experience as a US Ranger.
As a country singer, Thomas has recorded several independently released albums. Two singles, from the album Flags of Our Fathers: A Soldier’s Story charted on the Billboard country music charts.
