Cooter Festival’s three days of live music, carnival, 80+ vendors, and food trucks are a perfect fit at the 290-acre park in Inverness, Florida. Whispering Pines is a lush park that provides a perfect backdrop to this emerging music festival, with ample space for festivalgoers and it highlights one of the County’s top attractions.

The move to Whispering Pines City Park marks continued progress for this festival that started in 2004 with a handful of vendors and cooter turtle races.

Today, the 16th Annual Cooter Festival organizers estimate 10,000-12,000 attendees will visit over the weekend. Several large carnival rides, food trucks, and live music are planned for all three days, requiring a large outdoor venue to accommodate this rising festival.

Cooter Fest kicks off on Friday, October 25, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. with vendors and carnival rides. Enjoy live performances by Peace of Woodstock and Come Back Alice.

Saturday, October 26, 2019, starts at 11 a.m. with live music throughout the day by acts such as the Contenders, Humans in Disguise, and Fleetwood Max.

Sunday, October 27, 2019, starts at 12:00 p.m. with the wildly popular Cooterween and live music in the afternoon by Band 4Play and Leesburg Blues Brothers.

There are a myriad of activities throughout the week from October 21-26, including the Cooterrific Coed Softball Classic all week (For more information contact Wood Worley @ 352 613-0866 or email at

Cooter Races are held Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Free and open to the public to view races.

The City partners with Nature World Wildlife Rescue, a Citrus County nonprofit rescue, to educate and entertain with water turtles, owls and other critters in their care. Visit their booth located next to the track for more information on wildlife concerns in our area. Visit the registration table for your chance to root on your favorite cooter on the Cooter Race Track. Spaces fill-up quickly, so make sure to register early.

Cooters will race hourly at the festival.  Traditionally, we have yellow-bellied sliders or similar “cooters” at the festival for the children to visit with (not to touch). The idea is to watch the little guys race to the end of the special cooter track with gentle rooting for the fastest little cooter! Please don’t scream at the cooters, and remember #itsaturtle.

Cooter Festival will be held on October 25-27, 2019 in Whispering Pines City Park, 1700 Forest Drive, in Inverness, Florida.

The history of the festival includes its being highlighted on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart several years ago. It’s a funny show, so watch here:
