Earth Day Celebration

Earth Day Keep Pasco Beautiful

Earth Day has been celebrated every year in Pasco County on the fourth Saturday of April at Crews Lake Wilderness Park – located at 16739 Crews Lake Dr., Spring Hill, Florida. This year it will be on Saturday, April 24th from 9 am to 2 pm.   This is a free event to attend.  We have implemented Covid-19 procedures to allow for social distancing.  Numerous educational vendors will be attending to teach us what we can individually do to protect our planet along with upcycle vendors and a ladybug release.

Come check out Croc Encounters, a nonprofit reptile sanctuary that will be bringing some of its residents for educational presentations.

Owl’s Nest Sanctuary for Wildlife will also be attending so we can learn about our winged friends as well.

The Nature Coast Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society will be back with some amazing Florida native plants for sale, and, since they are the experts, you can ask for their green thumb advice.

Shredding will be from 9 am to 12 pm, so go through those old dusty boxes.  The Kiwanis Club of Pasco Hernanado will be selling some delicious food and ice cold beverages.

The UF/IFAS will be offering two workshops, which require pre-registration:

At the Rainwater Harvesting Workshop participants will learn how to install and use their rain barrel.  The workshop will start at 10 am, and there is a $45 fee.  Rain Water Harvesting Workshop Registration Link

The Compost Happens Workshop will teach participants the benefits of composting along with the dos and don’ts of composting.  This workshop will start at 12 pm.  Compost Happens Registration Link

There will be a free household hazardous waste collection at the event thanks to our partnership with Pasco County Solid Waste.  They will be taking household chemicals and cleaners, fertilizers, fungicides, pesticides, herbicides, paints, paint thinners and removers, solvents, automotive fluids, wood preservatives, used motor oil, pool chemicals, lead-acid batteries, household batteries, CFL(s), Fluorescent bulbs, and cell phones. Covanta is sponsoring the electronics recycling which is free, with a limit of two TVs per person.

Thanks to Covanta the first 50 people that bring a mercury-containing thermometer or thermostat will receive a $5 Publix gift card (one per vehicle).  For more information on the collection call (813) 929-2755 ext. 2046 or got to http://pascocountyutilities.com.

This event has been a collaboration between Pasco County Public Works, Keep Pasco Beautiful, Covanta Pasco, Pasco County Environmental Compliance, Pasco County Recycling and Education Department, Pasco County Parks and Recreation, and the Pasco County School Board.
