The state Office of Insurance Regulation announced this week that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has extended a 60-day filing deadline to 90 days for National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policyholders making claims from the early September storm, (commencing on August 31, 2016 through September 9),  that swept through northern Florida.

Floridians with policies through the National Flood Insurance Program will have 30 additional days to file claims resulting from Hurricane Hermine. 2016 FEMA Officials indicated that Hurricane Hermine caused significant widespread flooding in impacted areas of Florida and the 30 day extension was needed to ease any undue burden on policyholders.   More information is available by calling the FEMA helpline at 1-800-621-3362 or the website at https://www.fema.gov/national-flood-insurance-program.

As of close of business on Oct. 26, the National Flood Insurance Program had received 2,376 claims and approved nearly $25.8 million for Hurricane Hermine in the State of Florida. Nearly $10.2 million have been disbursed in advanced payments.
