Florida Artist’s Gallery January 2019 Class Schedule

The Florida Artists Gallery is offering a great selection of classes to encourage your creativity. Classes include watercolor painting for beginners and intermediates, a watercolor open studio, learn how to create a pendant with a wire wrapping technique, or explore the art of Japanese paper folding also known as Origami.

Susan Strawbridge’s Watercolor Classes. Thursdays January 10, 17, 24, and 31 from 9:30 a. m. – 12:30 p.m.. The four classes, for beginner and intermediate artists, will include the basics in watercolor – composition, color theory, and values.  If you have heard that watercolor is a difficult medium, you can learn how to plan ahead for more successful paintings.  The class needs a minimum of five students and has a maximum of 8.  A supply list will be provided and the cost is $100 for all four classes or $35 per class.  Call the Gallery (352-344-9300) to register. Barbara Kerr’s Watercolor Open Studio. Tuesdays January 8, 15, 22, and 29 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.. The Open Studio is for intermediate to advanced artists who wish to pursue their individual projects.  Bring your own materials and work aFlorida Artists t your own pace.  Barbara will provide assistance as needed.  Cost is $20 per session.  Call the Gallery (352-344-9300) to enroll.

Lynda Ryan’s Pendant (Cabochon) Class. Saturday, January 12 at 1:00 p.m.. Students will learn the fundamentals of wire wrapping a pendant.  The class is $60 which includes a kit for making two wire-wrapped pendants in silver-filled wire – one in class and one at home. Types, sizes and hardness of wire will be discussed.  Included are techniques on how to handle and twist square wire and how to use half-round wire. At the completion of class, each student will have a semi-precious gemstone pendant wire wrapped.  If students have flat-nose and  round-nose pliers, flush or close cutters, please bring them.  Samples of pendants are in the Gallery. Chris Randle’s Origami (Japanese Paper Folding) Class. In three hours learn how to fold the traditional crane shape and a box in which to keep it.  Colorful handmade paper will be used, varnished, and embellished with beads and wire to make a beautiful and durable ornament.  Cost is $30 per person, including all materials and written instructions.  Call 352-344-9300 and we can schedule a class for 2 – 4 people.
