Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ August Class/Workshop Schedule

The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. All classes will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. The August 2018 schedule of classes and workshops along with a short description of each is listed below.

Free Class: Buyer Beware – Commonly Sold Invasive Plants and Better Alternatives

Residents are invited to attend “Buyer Beware – Commonly Sold Invasive Plants and Better Alternatives” on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the West Hernando Library located at 6335 Blackbird Avenue in Brooksville at 10:30 a.m. Some of the plants we find for sale are not the best. Learn how to make Florida-Friendly choices in the plant nursery. No registration is necessary.

Free Class: Ten Practical Steps to Having a Florida-Friendly Yard

Residents are invited to attend “Ten Practical Steps to Having a Florida-Friendly Yard” on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive at 10:30 a.m. Learn simple steps you can take today to have a yard that gives back to the environment. No registration is necessary.

Rain Barrel Workshop

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel Workshop on Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD) located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville. Rain barrels are $50 each. Attendance is necessary to purchase a rain barrel; however, you may attend without purchasing one. Pre-registration is required. Please make checks payable to HCUD and mail to Hernando County Utilities, 15365 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34613. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop August 29” on the envelope. Checks will be the only form of payment accepted. Hernando County Utilities customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive a one-time $25 credit on their water bill. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 55-gallon barrel. Attendance at a workshop is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel. All sales final.
