Florida-Friendly Landscaping February Class/Workshop Schedule

The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. All classes will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. The schedule of classes along with a short description of each is listed below.

Florida-Friendly Landscaping February Class/Workshop Schedule

Free Class: Pollinator Gardens

Residents are invited to attend “Pollinator Gardens” on Thursday, February 6, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the West Hernando Library located at 6335 Blackbird Avenue in Brooksville. Bees, butterflies and beyond! Participants will learn how to attract a flutter of movement and a buzz of activity to their yard while helping the environment. No registration is necessary.

Free Kid-Friendly Class: Wonderful Water

Residents are invited to attend “Wonderful Water” on Friday, February 7, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the Chinsegut Conservation Center located at 23212 Lake Lindsey Road in Brooksville. Great for home school families. Participants will learn about the water cycle and take a walk to May Prairie to explore a native wetland. Wear shoes and clothes suitable for exploring in the woods. Bring water and insect repellant. The walk to the wetland and back is two miles. No registration is necessary.

Free Class: Best All-Around Plants for Hernando County

Residents are invited to attend “Best All-Around Plants for Hernando County” on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, at 10 a.m. at the UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County Office located at 16110 Aviation Loop Drive in Brooksville. Tired of buying plants just to throw them on the compost pile? In this class, participants will learn about plants that perform well in our area and how to find the right plant for the right place. No registration is necessary.

Free Class: When Lawns Just Don’t Cut It 

Residents are invited to attend “When Lawns Just Don’t Cut It” on Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Participants will learn about lawn alternatives to utilize in areas where lawns just won’t thrive and how to save water by reducing their turf areas. No registration is necessary.

Rain Barrel Workshop

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel Workshop on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at the Hernando County Utilities Department office located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville. Rain barrels are $50 each. Attendance is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel; however, you may attend without purchasing one. Please make checks payable to HCUD and mail to Hernando County Utilities, 15365 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34613. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop “On February 26” on the envelope. Checks will be the only form of payment accepted and must be received by February 25, 2020. Hernando County Utilities customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive a one-time $25 credit on their water bill. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 55-gallon barrel. All sales final. Call (352) 540-6230 for more information.
