Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ June Class/Workshop Schedule

The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. The schedule of classes and workshops along with a short description of each is listed below.

Free Class: Damsels and Dragons

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Damsels and Dragons” on Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Chinsegut Conservation Center located at 23212 Lake Lindsey Road in Brooksville at 10 a.m. Get an up close and personal look at some of our local damselflies and dragonflies along with some interesting stories about them. This class is great for homeschool groups and will be presented by Florida Friendly Landscaping™ Program Coordinator Lilly Browning and Urban Horticulture Agent Dr. William Lester. No registration is necessary.

Free Class: Your Summer Landscape

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Your Summer Landscape” on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the West Hernando Library located at 6335 Blackbird Avenue in Brooksville at 10:30 a.m. As the heat rises, learn which plants do well in our intense summers and what you should be doing to your landscape this time of year. This class will be presented by Florida Friendly Landscaping™ Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. No registration is necessary.

Free Class: Rain Gardens

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Rain Gardens” on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive at 10:30 a.m. Rain gardens let rain water infiltrate the soil and not turn into stormwater runoff. Learn simple techniques to have a beautiful and efficient rain garden. This class will be presented by Florida Friendly Landscaping™ Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. No registration is necessary.

Rain Barrel Workshop

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel Workshop on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. The workshop will be held at the Hernando County Utilities Building located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville. This workshop will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator Lilly Browning.

Rain barrels are a cost of $50 each. Residents are invited to come and listen without the purchase of a rain barrel. Pre-registration is required. Please send checks, written out to HCUD to Hernando County Utilities located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34613. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop June 27” on the envelope. Checks will be the only form of payment accepted. Hernando County Utilities Customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive at one-time credit on their water bill for $25. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 55-gallon barrel. Attendance at a workshop is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel. All sales final.
