Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ September 2018 Class/Workshop Schedule

The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. All classes will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. The schedule of classes and workshops along with a short description of each is listed below.

Free Class: Buyer Beware – Commonly Sold Invasive Plants and Better Alternatives

Residents are invited to attend “Buyer Beware – Commonly Sold Invasive Plants and Better Alternatives” on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Chinsegut Conservation Center located at 23212 Lake Lindsey Road in Brooksville. Some of the plants we find for sale are not the best. Learn how to make Florida-Friendly choices in the plant nursery. No registration is necessary.

Free Class: Lawn Facts Versus Lawn Fiction

Residents are invited to attend “Lawn Facts Versus Lawn Fiction” on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive. There is a lot of misinformation out there. This class will separate myths from research-based information. No registration is necessary.

Rain Barrel Workshop

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel Workshop on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Spring Hill Branch Library located at 9220 Spring Hill Drive. Rain barrels are $50 each. Attendance is necessary to purchase a rain barrel; however, you may attend without purchasing one. Pre-registration is required. Please make checks payable to HCUD and mail to Hernando County Utilities, 15365 Cortez Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34613. Write “Rain Barrel Workshop September 15” on the envelope. Checks will be the only form of payment accepted and must be received by September 13. Hernando County Utilities customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive a one-time $25 credit on their water bill. Please bring a vehicle that can accommodate a 55-gallon barrel. Attendance at a workshop is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel. All sales final.

Free Class: Top Ten Things Newcomers Need to Know About Their Florida Yard

Residents are invited to attend “Top Ten Things Newcomers Need to Know About Their Florida Yard” on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hernando County Utilities Building located at 15365 Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville. Spoiler Alert! Number one is: Forget everything you ever knew about gardening elsewhere. No registration is necessary.
