FREE virtual classes on Florida-Friendly Landscaping

The Hernando County Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) program offers classes and workshops year-round to help residents learn how to save time, money, and water when maintaining their lawns and gardens. In an effort to keep our staff and residents safe during this time, all in-person classes have been canceled and free virtual classes via Facebook Live and Zoom are now being offered for residents to enjoy in the comfort of their homes.

The schedule of classes along with a short description of each is listed below. Residents can participate by following FFL on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/HernandoFFLProgram or by specific instructions listed below. Videos will also be available on Facebook after the class has been recorded.

Free Virtual Class on Entomology for Kids: Who Likes Bugs?

Kids of all ages are invited to virtually attend “Who Likes Bugs?” on Wednesday, May 8, 2020 at 10 a.m. Join Horticulture Agent Dr. William Lester and FFL Program Coordinator Lilly Browning as they undertake a journey in learning about insects. There will be a story, “The Girl Who Loved Bugs”, presented and Dr. Lester will introduce participants to some folks who make their living loving bugs. “Who Likes Bugs” will be offered via Zoom for approximately one hour. Free Virtual Class: Florida-Friendly and Dog-Friendly Yards

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Florida-Friendly and Dog-Friendly Yards” on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at 10 a.m. This class will be presented by FFL Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. Learn tips and techniques to make your yard a space that both you and your four-legged family members can enjoy. Participants will discuss how to make your yard a fun, interactive environment for your pooch, while maintaining the beauty you appreciate.

Free Virtual Class: Alter-Natives for the Landscape

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Alter-Natives for the Landscape” on Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at 10 a.m. This class will be presented by FFL Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. Learn how to apply Right Plant, Right Place to Florida native plants. Participants will discuss Florida native plants for Central Florida and which ones will thrive in your site conditions. Native plants will bring style, color and wildlife to your Florida yard.

Free Virtual Class: Some Like it Hot – Flowering Plants That Beat the Heat

Residents are invited to virtually attend “Some Like it Hot – Flowering Plants That Beat the Heat” on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 at 10 a.m. This class will be presented by FFL Program Coordinator Lilly Browning. Participants will learn which blooming beauties can withstand our intense summers and bring color to our steamy landscapes.

Following a popular launch, UF/IFAS Pasco County Cooperative Extension Service is expanding its Virtual Plant Clinic offerings to five days a week.  Meet virtually with a Pasco Master Gardener volunteer Monday through Friday for help with lawn or garden issues, weed and pest control tips, and more – all from your own home!

WHEN:          Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays: 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
                        Tuesdays & Thursdays: 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. (except County holidays)
