The Great Americans Alzheimer’s Awareness Photo Exhibit is now on display at the East Hernando Branch Library at 6457 Windmere Road in Brooksville, Florida.  For two years, it has toured public libraries in Florida’s Citrus, Marion, and Lake counties where it has been viewed by an estimated half-million people.  

Great Americans Alzheimer’s Awareness Photo Exhibit now in Hernando County

The exhibit features large framed portraits on canvas of 24 famous American artists, musicians, athletes, actors, politicians, and authors who have succumbed to Alzheimer’s Disease or some other form of dementia.  Its purpose is to deliver the message that no one is immune to dementia, which now affects more than 6 million Americans and their families. 

The traveling exhibit is an educational initiative of the Alzheimer’s Family Organization (AFO), a non-profit charity that provides services and support for caregivers of individuals living with dementia in eight west-central Florida counties, including Hernando County.

There will also be an Alzheimer’s Learning Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the East Branch library on July 20, 2019, featuring information tables, workshops, and presentations by the Alzheimer’s Family Organization, Coping with Dementia LLC, Meridien Research, and other organizations involved in research, care, and other services for individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
After a two-month stay at the East Hernando Branch, the exhibit will move to other libraries in the Hernando system based on a schedule that will be announced at a later date.
