Hernando Audubon Society Meeting: “Florida Panthers Face New Challenges.”

The proposed construction of a new expressway from Polk to Collier counties cuts through the heart of the Florida Panthers’ habitat and will have a devastating effect on the panther population. Speaker Elizabeth Fleming is the senior Florida representative of Defenders of Wildlife and has worked extensively on the protection of Florida Panthers. The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 27, at 7 p.m. in Kennedy Park at Lorenzo Hamilton Community Center, 899 Kennedy Blvd., Brooksville. Contact Bev: 352-686-0460, [email protected]

Hernando Audubon Birding Trips: Hernando Audubon Society Big Day Birdathon

Saturday, February 15. Birders will try to see as many species as possible before dusk. At 6 a.m. birders will meet at the Big Lots parking lot, 20050 Cortez Blvd. in Brooksville, and travel to various sites to see varieties of birds. This is a fundraiser for the Hernando Audubon Society, with proceeds going to help fund local conservation and education programs and our Junior Audubon Club. Hernando Audubon Birding Trip to Werner-Boyce Salt Springs State Park (Pasco County):

Tuesday, February 18, 8 a.m. at the park entrance, 8737 US-19, Port Richey, $3 park entrance fee. To carpool from Hernando County, meet at 7 a.m. at Denny’s, 1445 Wendy Court (at US-19), Spring Hill.
