Hernando Audubon Meeting: Conservation Ecology of Short-tailed Hawks, Swallow-tailed Kites, and Snail Kites.

The speaker is Ken Meyer, Executive Director of Avian Research and Conservation Institute (ARCI). He will share the latest research on tracking and migration of three magnificent Florida raptors.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 7 p.m. at Brooksville Woman’s Club, 131 S. Main Street, Brooksville.
Masks and social distancing are required.

Hernando Audubon Birding Trip to Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park (Pasco County), Saturday, March 5,

Location: 10500 Wilderness Park Blvd., New Port Richey.
Meet at 8 a.m. in the corral parking area.
We will watch water birds at the Audubon bird blind and walk nearby trails, looking for songbirds. Contact Gwen: gwenfraley@comcast.net or 206-659-2677.

Hernando Audubon Birding Trip to Honeymoon Island (Pinellas County), Tuesday, March 8:

Meet at 7:15 on the causeway, at the first pull-off on the south side of Curlew Road (SR-586).
We expect to see a variety of waders, gulls, terns, and shorebirds.

Hernando Audubon Birding Trip to McKethan Lake, Saturday, March 19:

McKethan Lake is at 15185 Broad Street (US-41) north of Brooksville. Meet at 8 a.m. at the parking lot across from the picnic area with restrooms and play ground.

We will walk through hardwood hammock and along the lake edge, looking for songbirds and water birds. There is a $2 per person park fee. The trip leader has made a reservation for our group with Forestry and will collect the $2 fee from participants and pay Forestry a lump sum.

Hernando Audubon Beginning Birding, Friday, March 25.

Meet at 8 a.m. at Chinsegut Conservation Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville.

Hernando Audubon Birding and Biking on the Withlacoochee Trail, Saturday, March 26:

Meet at 8 a.m. at Lake Townsen Preserve Park, 28011 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville.

We will bike about 6 miles north before returning. This beautiful section passes through forests and fields, where we will stop periodically to look for birds.
