The Hernando County Public Library System (HCPLS) announces the following program recommendations. All events are free and the public is encouraged to participate.

Adult program recommendations from your library

  • Ukulele Strum & Play – First four Fridays of the month on August 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 10 – 11:30 a.m. at the East Hernando Branch (6457 Windmere Rd., Brooksville, FL 34602)
    Join Tampa Bay Ukulele Society guest instructor Gayle Grindey for this fun program. Bring your own ukulele or use one of our class instruments. Registration is recommended and all ages are welcome.

  • Savvy Caregiver Training –  Every Thursday for seven weeks on August 8, 15, 22, 29 and September 5,12,19 from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at the West Hernando Branch (6335 Blackbird Ave., Brooksville, FL 34613)
    Free caregiver training – two hours each – for those caring for family or friends with dementias, including Alzheimer’s. The training will help participants gain knowledge about the diseases and medications, learn skills on how to respond to dementia behaviors and will cover how to reduce stress by gaining a better perspective.   • Mom to Mom Breastfeeding Support Group – Friday, August 9, 23 and subsequently, every second and last Friday of the month from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Main Library Branch (238 Howell Ave., Brooksville, FL, 34601)
    It is very important to seek assistance in the early weeks after having a baby, as many questions come up after leaving the birth place! Please join the WIC team for this breastfeeding support group, where other mothers in the community understand and are willing to offer help. Topics vary by week, open to the public and FREE to attend. Guests for your support are also welcome. Call the WIC line at (352) 540-6924 for questions.
  • Ukulele Jam – Wednesday, August 14 from 4:30– 5:45 p.m. at the Spring Hill Branch (9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34608)
    Get together with fellow ukulele enthusiasts to strum and sing your favorite tunes! Bring your own instrument or use one of ours. All ages welcome and no registration is required.
