Hernando County Library Programs for the New Year

The Hernando County Public Library System (HCPLS) announces the following program recommendations for the New Year beginning January 2019. All events are free and the public is encouraged to participate.

Learning Circle, “The Science of Happiness” course – Tuesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22, 29 & Feb. 5,12,19 from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Main Library Branch (238 Howell Ave., Brooksville, FL 34601.) This seven week, peer-supported class is designed for in-person learners to complete online courses in a group setting. Offered by instructors from UC Berkeley, “The Science of Happiness” teaches strategies for tapping into and nurturing their own happiness including activities to foster social and emotional well-being. Basic computer skills and registration are required.

Signing for Everyday Living – Thursdays beginning January 3 through January 31 from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the East Hernando Branch (6457 Windmere Rd., Brooksville, FL 34602). Signing for Everyday Living is a five week, crash course in basic American Sign Language for learners at any skill level. People of all ages and abilities and those who are experiencing hearing loss are welcome. This course is provided by Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services of Florida, Inc.

Learn to Play Ukulele – Thursdays beginning January 17 through January 31 from 4-5:30 p.m. at the West Hernando Branch (6335 Blackbird Avenue, Brooksville ,FL, 34613). Got a ukulele but not sure how to play it? Come to our beginning ukulele class and learn the basics. In this introductory class you will learn how to hold and tune your ukulele and some basic chords and strum patterns. Registration is required.

It’s JAZZ! – Friday, January 18, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Spring Hill Branch (9220 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill, FL 34608). Join us for this monthly musical program that explores the Golden Age of Jazz. Presented by former NPR Jazz Radio Announcer Peter LaMattina.
