Hernando County Government has selected Tobey Phillips as its deputy county administrator. Phillips received a dual bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a master’s degree from University of South Florida.

She has spent the past eight years working for Citrus County Government, most recently as the Community Services Director. In this role, she provided leadership to nine divisions and delivered results for many projects and programs.

“I am excited for the opportunity to join the Hernando County team.” Tobey Phillips said. “I look forward to serving the community and providing dependable leadership to County staff.”

Phillips has experience cultivating public/private partnerships, increasing employee morale, analyzing organizational structures to find efficiencies and growing customer service skills. She is an affiliate member of Florida City & County Management Association (FCCMA) and recent recipient of the FCCMA Emerging Scholar program.

“Tobey has the experience and skill set required to serve in this position,” County Administrator Jeff Rogers said. “I look forward to working with her to continue making Hernando County a great place to live, work and play.”

A total of 18 applications were received for the position. After careful and deliberate review of the applications, administration determined that four individuals met the criteria to proceed to the interview process. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with three of the four applicants. This process led to the selection of Phillips as the most qualified candidate.

Phillips’ first day will be October 21, 2019. Her pay will be $134,472.
