Free Class  – Ten Simple Steps to a Florida-Friendly Yard

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Ten Simple Steps to a Florida-Friendly Yard” on Thursday, January 2, 2020, at the West Hernando Library – 6335 Blackbird Ave, Brooksville at 10:30 a.m. Florida is unique when it comes to landscape care. Learn very simple steps to start having a successful and beautiful yard. The class will be presented by the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. Free class. No registration is necessary.

Free Kid-Friendly Class – Inviting Critters Into Your Yard

Residents are invited to a free class, “Inviting Critters Into Your Yard” on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Chinsegut Conservation Center – 23212 Lake Lindsey Road, Brooksville 34601 at 10:00 a.m. Great for home school families. Come on out and learn how the whole family can participate in bringing more wildlife to your yard. A short presentation by Florida-Friendly Landscaping, and hands-on activities will be offered by Chinsegut Conservation staff and Volunteer Master Gardeners.

Free Class – Much Ado About Mulch

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Much Ado About Mulch” on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at UF IFAS Extension Hernando County – 16110 Aviation Loop Dr. at 10:00 a. m. The class will be presented by the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. There is much to learn about mulch! What is its purpose? What’s the best kind to use? How much is too much mulch? These things and more will be covered in this free class.  No registration necessary.

Free Class –Florida-Friendly and Neighbor-Friendly

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Florida-Friendly and Neighbor-Friendly” on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Spring Hill Branch Library – 9220 Spring Hill Dr. at 10:30 a. m. It is possible to incorporate native and Florida-Friendly Landscaping into your deed-restricted landscape, pleasing yourself and your HOA. Learn tips on how to grow wild in a civilized community!   The class will be presented by the Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. Free class. No registration is necessary.

Hernando County Utilities Water Awareness Series Offers Free Class

Hernando County residents are invited to attend a free seminar, “How Hernando Citizens Contribute to Science” on Friday, January 10, 2020, 10:00am – 12:00pm at Hernando County Utilities, 15365 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, 34613. From Lakes to springs, to wetlands and coasts, volunteers help protect our sensitive waterways. Brittany Hall-Scharf, Marine Agent UF IFAS Extension Hernando County, will discuss the ways in which Hernando citizens, young, old and in-between, contribute to the health and well-being of our natural water systems.

Light refreshments will be served.  Registration is requested.

Saturday Rain Barrel Workshop on January 11th at East Hernando Library

Residents are invited to attend a Rain Barrel Workshop on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 10:30 a. m.  The Workshop will be held at the East Hernando Library in Ridge Manor at 6457 Windmere Road, Brooksville, FL 34602. To attend the Rain Barrel Workshop you must pre-register by calling 352-540-6230 by January 9, 2020. The rain barrels cost $50. One barrel per workshop attendant. Hernando County Utilities Customers who attend the workshop and install a rain barrel at their home will receive a one-time credit on their water bill of $25. Attendance at a workshop is mandatory to purchase a rain barrel. All sales are final. Please call 352-540-6230 for more information.

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Best All-Around Plants for Hernando County” on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the Spring Hill Branch Library – 9220 Spring Hill Dr. at 10:30 a. m. Tired of buying plants just to throw them on the compost pile? In this class, we’ll cover plants that perform well in our area and how to find the Right Plant for the Right Place. The class will be presented by Florida-Friendly Landscaping Program Coordinator, Lilly Browning. Free class. No registration is necessary.

Free Class – Florida-Friendly Fertilizing

Residents are invited to attend a free class, “Florida-Friendly Fertilizing” on Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Hernando County Utilities, 15365 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, FL 34613. The class will be presented by Urban Horticulture Agent, Dr. William Lester, UF IFAS Extension, Hernando County. Dr. Lester will walk participants through the Hernando County Fertilizer Ordinance and the best management practices when it comes to fertilizing their lawns and landscapes. Free class. No registration necessary.
