Hernando Provides Transportation Services to Veterans Through Veterans Ride Program

Mid Florida Community Services, Inc’s., Trans Hernando is Hernando County’s designated Community Transportation Coordinator.  Trans Hernando provides safe, efficient, cost-effective, and quality transportation services to veterans, and transportation disadvantaged citizens of Hernando County. 

In 2016, Mid Florida Community Services, Inc. (MFCS), created the “Veterans Ride Program”.  As part of its mission to promote self-sufficiency for individuals and families in the communities in which they live, MFCS extends this special service to veterans and their spouses who provide proof of service.  “We are proud to offer this service, as well as a reduced ridership fee, as a way to support those that have served”, says MFCS CEO Michael Georgini.

Since program inception in 2016, Trans Hernando has provided over 12,490 trips through the Veterans Ride Program, and has saved Hernando County veterans $49,960 as a result of the reduced ridership fee.

Georgini goes on to say that he is “honored that Mid Florida Community Services has the opportunity to provide quality transportation services to veterans, and other transportation disadvantaged citizens of Hernando County.  I am pleased that we can do something so small to support these individuals in their efforts to live independently.”

Trans Hernando is a shared-ride system that provides door-to-door transportation services, primarily to meet medical and nutritional need.
