Captain William Toney Fishing

Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report by Captain Toney 1/24/17

We are nearing the final stretch of winter fishing and i look forward to those better Spring tides. With this weeks severe front there is plenty enough water, maybe too much.

Look for the trout to be pushed into the deeper back country with the extreme tides, along with some redfish. Back bays like Porpoise and Fish Creek will be good starting points. MirrOlure MirrOdines are a great bait to get the trout bite going and also work the shorelines for the redfish. Soon expect some offshore trout to move in the rocky points to pre spawn and sun on the rocks.

In the rivers there has been some decent snook action from mid river all the way up to the Halls River and Blue Water. I have been catching them on D.O.A. CAL shads with a 1/8 oz. chartreuse jig head. Look for rocky points and down trees with good outgoing tides for the best luck. There has also been some black drum in the river biting on live shrimp.

Near shore the shallow rocks are producing some sheepshead on live shrimp. Offshore Capt. Chris Wilkins has been bring in some monster AJ’s, mangrove snapper and hogfish. High incoming tide this weekend will be in the afternoon.
