It’s a great week for inshore and offshore fishing.

The gag grouper bite will get better now that the winds have settled down after helping to clear the surface of a lot of floating grass. Between 15- and 40-feet is the best depth, and live pinfish is the best bait. Trolling plugs might work but it may be a little early yet.

On the shallow rocks, I’ve had some luck catching some nice mangrove snapper using live shrimp. On the tide change is the best bite and chumming will elevate the bite. 

Inshore, the redfish bite is very good. Gold spoons and 1/8th oz. jigs will get the bite and cover more water then shrimp. The snook are more active on the high outgoing tide on the outside keys. My favorite bait is the D.O.A. 5.5 glow jerk bait with a chartreuse 1/8oz. jighead.

Trout fishing is good, so if it’s breezy try the pole line south of Homosassa, the Bird Rack, or near Gomez Rocks. If the conditions are calm I’ve done well out in 10-feet of water with some nice sea bass in the mix.

High incoming tide this weekend will be midday.
