Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report with Captain Toney
Just a quickie this week to tell all the anglers who have read my reports over the years, “Thank you very much and Merry Christmas.”
We have a gift coming to us on the Big Bend with new trout limits that will be implemented in 2020. The new regulations will be ‘no-take’ for hired captains, and anglers will be able to keep 5 seatrout per person between 15- and 19-inches, with one fish per vessel to exceed 19 inches.
This will only help an already robust trout fishery on the Big Bend.
Imagine taking a photo of yourself releasing a 25-plus inch trout… a few of us have, but I personally believe this could be the norm in our future. We do it with oversize reds regularly in our fishery.
Our growing Big Bend needs to be protected and maintained for us and, more importantly, for our future anglers. Every bit of change, coastal and inland, can affect the Gulf waters.
Look for trout to be around the creeks and river mouths. Jerk baits and suspending plugs will catch fish in the edges of deep holes.
Incoming high tide will be late afternoon this weekend.
