Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report with Captain Toney: Tribute to Captain Dan Clymer

By Captain William Toney Posted on February 1, 2022

One of the hardest things I’ve found in life is saying goodbye to someone you love and a close friend. Over the years I’ve hung out, fished, and worked with a very exceptional man named Captain Dan Clymer.

I met Dan when he had his custom black Pro Line built. We both drooled over it and soon became close friends. Over the years Dan and I fished on many group trips, and he pushed me to become a better guide just because he was the best at catching fish.

We both had a competitive personality back in the day and both wanted to be the best at the dock every trip, so he helped me and was generous enough to share his knowledge. Later in time, Dan groomed many Big Bend guides on how to be the best with clients and hone their skills to become successful in their endeavors.

One story I’ll share is when we went out to my camp and caught some bass, then hiked out to Gun Barrel Creek and got some oysters with the help of some apple pie moonshine. Later after a big feast, Dan played his acoustic guitar around the campfire till the late hours, and we howled at the moon. I’ll never forget my good friend and never forget what Dan has done for our Nature Coast fishing and people; love you bud.

High incoming tide will be dark in the morning and late evening this weekend.
