Homosassa Inshore Fishing Report with Captain Toney: Inshore and Offshore

By Captain William Toney Posted on June 23, 2022

As hot as it’s been while I’m out fishing my mind is telling me how refreshing it would be to jump in and swim around. Well, we’re getting close to that in a big way with the upcoming scallop season just a week away.

I’ve heard mixed reports from good local sources, some are saying plenty of scallops and some are saying your gonna have to work for them. From what I’ve looked at from the boat I will say the water is very clear and there are no jelly fish so that’s a plus. Next week I hope to give you something better to chew on but that all I’ve got right now.

For some inshore trout, try south in Chassahowitzka in the many rock grass patches on the south end of the pole line. I’ve been using a D.O.A. Deadly Combo with a glow 3″ shrimp and fishing it painfully slow. Give it two or three pops and let it sit for about five seconds before doing it again. Most of the strikes have been while it is at rest.

Redfishing has been slow and most of the fish that we’ve caught are on the small side with a few lower slot fish mixed in. Look for mullet and cast tight to the mangroves with a cork and shrimp.

Offshore is the same story, running out to 30 -50 foot with live pinfish and moving till you hit the right rock is your best bet. Sometimes I wonder if the fish are there but not biting and when you find then if they started biting on the rock or flat you just left, but that’s fishing.

Incoming tide will be in the morning this weekend.
