Homosassa River Alliance Urges Citrus County to add Needed Deputies to patrol its Waterways

Hello Citrus County Commissioners.,

It is hard to believe that the Commission turned down the Sheriff’s request for additional funding to add needed deputies to patrol our waterways, yet the T.D.C. will continue to spend thousands of dollars to attract additional visitors to our Rivers and Springs each year.

Without additional law enforcement on our waters, we face an increase in poor behavior and safety issues on the County’s waterways.

The overcrowding and behavior issues in Three Sisters Springs, on Kings Bay and its canals, and the Weeki Wachee river are all being addressed by either the U.S.Fish and Wildlife Service, the City of Crystal River, and the Southwest Florida Water Management District.

The  County should be proactive and join in these efforts to protect and preserve the Blue Waters of the Homosassa River for our children, grandchildren, and those yet unborn. The County cannot afford to lose this jewel of the Homosassa River to the poor behavior of its visitors.
