The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) has partnered with the state’s Extension offices to collect suspicious Chinese Seeds that citizens may have received.

Important Information from UF/Citrus County Extension on Chinese Seed Packets

Effective immediately, Citrus County Extension office at 3650 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto will be accepting unordered suspicious Chinese seeds residents may have received by mail.  To date, over 500 Floridians have received these seeds, often labeled as earrings or jewelry.

Citizens are encouraged to avoid handling the seeds or discarding them. Instead please bring them to the Extension office in Lecanto. Extension faculty will take the seeds and packaging along with a small amount of information and provide all collected materials to the FDACS for further investigation as to what the seeds are and where they may have come from.

There is no charge for this service, and citizens are encouraged to assist the FDACS in their investigation. The Extension lobby is open to the public and social distancing is being practiced. For more information, please phone 352-527-5700.
