Jazz musicians Taubert and Smith-Adams to perform at Nature Coast UU Fellowship
Nationally-recognized musical artists Sally Smith-Adams and Kathryn Taubert will perform together for the first time in jazz concerts hosted by the Nature Coast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 7633 North Florida Avenue in Citrus Springs. The concerts will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, November 16 and 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2018.
Kathryn Taubert began her career as a jazz vocalist, performing with her university’s dance band in her native Texas, then subsequently working with the Johnny Garcia and Steve Wayne Trios. She eventually moved to New York where she performed in Manhattan and Connecticut jazz clubs. Taubert relocated to Florida in 2004 where she performed with some of Florida’s finest jazz musicians including Naples’ “Mr. Music” Claude Rhea.
Born and raised in upstate New York, Sally Smith, now Sally Smith-Adams, has been a full-time career musician except for a period when her children were very young. She played for many years in New York’s Catskill Mountains resort hotels – the so-called “Borscht Belt” – backing up famous comedians and singers like Pearl Bailey, Edie Gorme, Steve Lawrence, Jerry Lewis, the Temptations, Jackie Mason, the Smothers Brothers. After remarrying, she and husband Roger Adams lived in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands where Sally was a fixture on the music scene for almost 15 years. They moved permanently to Citrus County in 2009.
Taubert and Smith-Adams will be backed up by percussionist David Morgan for the two 90-minute performances without intermission. The concerts are fund-raising benefits for the Nature Coast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship to support social justice programs including voters’ rights, women’s rights and LGBTQ issues.
Tickets are available for $15.00 each, payable with checks or cash. Seating is limited. To reserve seats, call Pam Ricker at 352-229-3253 or 352-489-3545.
