JG Ranch May Update: Sweet Corn, Berries & More
It’s May and we have a little over 2 months left for this season. Jeff has all ready started working up the strawberry beds and putting in a new irrigation/sprinkler system. Forty thousand plants have been ordered for October 1st delivery and we are looking for a pre-Thanksgiving strawberry opening.
Sweet corn is now available at the farm or on Saturdays at the Farmer’s Market by Rural King. The season will last through the 4th of July. The all ready picked corn will cost $.50 an ear, $5.00 a dozen or $20.00 a bushel of 52 ears. Please call ahead so that we can have your bushel ready for you to pick up.
Watermelon should be available by May 20, and will cost $5 a piece – seeded or unseeded. We usually have those all ready picked, but it might be possible to pick your own if you want. Watermelon will last into July.
Blackberries will be in strong in about 2 weeks. They are slowly turning black, but when the season gets going they should last into July. The cost will be $5.00 per pound that you pick. We do not normally have any all ready picked because of the heat, but if you need some picked please call ahead and the cost will be $6.00 per pound. Please remember to bring a cooler with you for the berries to start cooling down on your way home.
We are still getting some produce from the Plant City Farmer’s Market that we do not grow – tomatoes, beans, sweet potatoes, onions etc.
Blueberries should still be available through the end of May at $4.00 per pound that you pick. Call ahead to make sure there are still berries.
Farm Fresh eggs and local honey will be available at the stand and all summer long at the house. You can give us a call at 352-799-0556 to place your order and then stop by to pick up your farm fresh food.
We have new hours: Thursday through Saturday, 9am to 1pm. Please call 352-799-0556 if you want an afternoon appointment.
