JG Ranch Update: Blueberries and Blackberries

By Florida's Original NatureCoaster™ Posted on April 25, 2018

We have finally had enough warm nights that the blueberries are turning blue! The harvest should last into the middle of May.

The blackberries are blooming! I understand there are a few red, not ripe yet, berries. The crop should be ready by the middle of May.

If you are willing to hunt, you might be able to find a few strawberries out there! But only for one more week! The plastic and irrigation lines are being removed from the strawberry section, so they will be all gone soon. This is so we can prepare the land for a cover crop during the summer.

▪ Also, available for picking are yellow neck, patty pan, and zucchini squash and beans. There are usually some already picked for you.
▪ From the Plant City Farmer’s Wholesale Market, we will have sweet corn (it has been really good), tomatoes, potatoes, onions, watermelon and for right now Florida peaches.
▪ Juney’s Sweets is always available! She’ll have cookies, bread, jams, and jellies.
▪ Local Honey – wildflower or orange blossom is available
in several sizes.
▪ Grandma’s chickens are laying fresh eggs every day so pick up some free-range farm fresh eggs.

Thirty baby chicks will be here around the 28th! If we’re lucky, this will hopefully mean many more eggs in the future! Remember the chickens like to have some bread tossed their way when you leave or as you come in!
