June 23 is release date for the 2017 Federal & Junior Duck Stamps

On June 23, the new Federal and Junior Duck Stamps go on sale — a day that hunters, birders, conservationists and stamp collectors look forward to every year. Born in the dust bowl days, the Duck Stamp was created in 1934 to protect wetlands that are vital to the survival of migratory waterfowl. The act requires that waterfowl hunters — some of the earliest conservationist — buy and carry the Duck Stamp. Since that first stamp, sales have raised more than $950 million to help clean water, enhance outdoor recreation opportunities and more.

As we mark the start of this year’s stamp sales, learn some of the cool things about the Duck Stamp.
