The Hernando County Parks and Recreation Department partnered with the Weeki Wachee Anglers, Inc., a family-oriented fishing and social club, to host the 2nd Annual Kids’ Fishing Extravaganza on April 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free, one-day clinic sponsored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will take place at Linda Pedersen Park located at 6300 Shoal Line Boulevard in Spring Hill.
The clinic aims to educate children about the vulnerability of Florida’s marine ecosystems, as well as to teach fundamental saltwater fishing skills with the goal of making these children responsible marine resource stewards. There are 400 slots to be filled and pre-registration is highly recommended.
Visit www.weekiwacheeanglersinc.com to complete the application. The deadline to submit is March 28, 2017. Children ages 5 to 15 may participate and they must be accompanied by an adult. Every child will be go through five hands-on learning stations to be eligible for a free rod and reel. They will also have an opportunity to try out their skills in a catch, photo and release event.
Vendors will be on site to provide entertainment, food and information on fishing in Florida waters.
