Light Up Inverness: Old Fashioned Christmas on Courthouse Square December 7
The lights of Inverness will shine bright this holiday season throughout Courthouse Square, and bring joy to the hearts of all in attendance on the evening of December 7, 2018 with the combined efforts of the City of Inverness, Citrus County Historical Society, and the Valerie Theatre. This event is free and open to the public.
All day The Old Courthouse Heritage Museum opens at 10 a.m. The Museum presents Old Fashioned Christmas exhibit featuring holiday traditions of the past. Free and open to the public. Exhibit closes at 8 p.m.
4:00 p.m. The Inverness Visitor Center Jingle & Mingle Holiday Party welcomes all to visit and learn more about this official Visit Florida Welcome Center and its upcoming season of events. Light refreshments provided by Oscar Penn’s, Nicole’s House of Cakes, Cattledog Roasters and Little Italy.
5:00 p.m. Festivities take place in downtown Inverness with an Old Fashioned Christmas on Courthouse Square with old fashioned train rides on the square. The Courthouse Square will be transformed into an old-fashioned Christmas scene. Santa will visit with children in front of the Old Courthouse Heritage Museum until 8 p.m..
5:30 p.m. The Old Courthouse Museum presents its yearly program Christmas Trees Around Courthouse Square Lighting that began over 20 years ago. Enjoy performances by the Citrus High School Choir.
6:00 p.m. Lighting of the Valerie Plaza Christmas tree, grand oak tree and the Christmas trees along the Square. Motivational message presented by City Manager Frank DiGiovanni. The weather report also calls for snow flurries over the Valerie Theatre.
6:30 p.m. The Valerie Theatre presents Home Alone the movie. Please contact in advance for free tickets while supplies last. More info at ValerieTheatre.org. Enjoy old fashioned carolers in downtown provided by the Citrus High Choir.
6:45 p.m. Stop by the Inverness Centennial Celebration volunteer tent to learn more about the celebrations coming in 2019 and a brief tour of historic buildings.
8:00 p.m. Event closes, but restaurants, pubs and wine bar are planning festivities to follow.
